Humility and self-denial can lead you to healing and spiritual maturity.

  When we learn to put aside our pride and live in service to others, we open ourselves up to a deeper level of healing and spiritual maturity. Humility allows us to see the world from a different perspective, to value others' opinions and to learn from our mistakes. When we embrace humility, we become more receptive to the lessons life is trying to teach us. In addition to its power to heal, humility leads us to a place of self-awareness. It encourages us to be honest with ourselves about our strengths and weaknesses, and to learn to forgive our shortcomings. Self-denial, on the other hand, requires us to let go of our desires for recognition. This is not an easy task, as our culture often glorifies self-indulgence.
